What to expect at pet-friendly hotels
Pet-friendly hotels normally set a per-stay or per-night pet fee, cap the number and weight of pets per room, and assign pet rooms on specific floors or near an exterior door.
Common house rules include no unattended pets in the room, crating during housekeeping, and pets on leash in every shared space including lobbies and elevators.
Before you go
- •Confirm the current pet fee and weight limit when you book — published policies change often.
- •Ask whether the fee is per stay or per night, and whether it is refundable.
- •Ask about the nearest relief area and whether there is a designated pet walking route.
- •Bring vaccination records, a crate if you may leave the room, and your own bedding.
Etiquette that keeps places pet friendly
- •Never leave a dog loose and alone in the room — barking complaints end pet programs.
- •Wipe paws before you cross the lobby, especially after rain or beach walks.
- •Use the stairs or an empty elevator if your dog is uneasy in tight spaces.
- •Report accidents right away; hotels are far more forgiving when housekeeping isn't surprised.
